Students from Halberton and Uplowman Schools create vibrant murals promoting climate action, inspired by a project in Tiverton, with support from local organizations.
The schools teamed up with local artists and received funding from Plymouth University. They asked the kids, “What would your village look like if it were Net Zero?” The students had fun brainstorming ideas.
Steph Packham, Chair of Governors for both schools, led the project. She believes art is a powerful way to talk about climate issues. The kids had unique interpretations, showing their creativity and passion for making a difference.
Using the Net Zero Visions Toolkit from Plymouth University, they guided the mural creation process. This toolkit helps others replicate similar projects, no matter where they are.
The launch event featured guests from Plymouth University and local organizations. They spoke with the students about the importance of climate action and listening to young voices.
Christine Campion from Halberton Primary said the kids enjoyed working with the artists. They learned about caring for the environment and reducing carbon emissions, which is a big focus for their school.
