Plymouth: A secret film is finally coming to the UK. The Secret Marathon tells the story of Martin Parnell, a runner from Devon. He wanted to help female runners in Afghanistan. The film was delayed due to security threats but is now ready for its premiere on March 7.

The premiere will be part of Rotary’s annual conference. This year’s theme is Helping Young People Achieve Their Potential. Everyone is invited to join the screening.

Martin Parnell is a well-known ultra-distance runner and philanthropist. He raised over $1 million to support young people through sports. He secretly entered Afghanistan to help women run a marathon. This act led to the film’s initial cancellation due to safety concerns. Martin will host the premiere and answer questions afterward.

Inspired by the film, a global initiative called The Secret 3K encourages people to walk or run 3km in solidarity with those who can’t participate in sports. Rotary will host its own Secret 3K on March 8, starting from the Crowne Plaza Hotel and covering Plymouth Hoe.

On the same day, Rotary will hold a Youth Development Day outside the Crowne Plaza. This event will feature free activities for young people and families. Highlights include the ShelterBox Challenge and a climbing wall.

Rotary District Governor Tony Williams is excited about the events. He believes every young person has potential, regardless of their abilities. The conference will showcase achievements and the impact of individuals who have changed lives.
