Exeter: A Devon man named Wade Robinson jumped out of a window to escape police. He was caught in a garden after trying to flee.

Robinson, 31, was sentenced to eight-and-a-half years for abusing a young girl. He also had hundreds of child abuse images. He will serve an extra three-and-a-half years on license due to the risk he poses.

Police started investigating Robinson after they linked him to an online account. This account had a child abuse image uploaded to a website. Officers executed a warrant in Exeter in 2022.

When police arrived, Robinson jumped out of a garden window and threw his phone over a fence. Officers caught him in the garden, and a neighbor found his phone on their lawn.

Robinson was arrested but refused to give police the PIN for his phone. However, digital forensics opened it and found over a thousand child abuse images, including very serious ones.

After his arrest, a victim came forward, saying Robinson had abused her. Some images on his phone were of this victim, who was a child.

Detectives built a strong case against Robinson, leading him to plead guilty to eight charges. This spared the victim from going through a court trial.

Robinson did not attend his sentencing. He will be on the Sex Offenders Register for life and has an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Judge Adkin noted Robinson’s refusal to engage with the court. He described Robinson as someone who enjoyed watching child abuse and posed a high risk to children.

Detective Constable Alex Powe stated that viewing child abuse material is inexcusable. He praised the team’s hard work in building a strong case against Robinson.
