Mark McCabe, a U2 creative consultant, dodges jail time after assaulting an airport worker in Dublin, leaving the victim injured and requiring medical attention.
He was in Dublin for a project and had a bit of a meltdown at the airport. It all went down on November 9, 2023, when he got into a heated argument about his boarding pass.
McCabe ended up pleading guilty to assault causing harm. The court hit him with a €500 fine and a three-month suspended sentence. He also has to pay €2,000 in compensation to the victim.
The poor airport worker had to be taken to the hospital after the punch. McCabe was stressed and claimed he was just trying to get home. But that doesn’t excuse the violence.
He had some mobility issues and initially said he wasn’t guilty. But later, he changed his plea. The judge heard that McCabe was disruptive and refused to calm down when staff asked him to.
After the punch, the victim suffered injuries and had to take a week off work. McCabe has to keep the peace for two years and go through anger management.
His lawyer said he was genuinely remorseful and stressed from work. McCabe even apologized in court. It’s a wild story, and it’s a reminder that stress can lead to some pretty bad decisions.
