Three men were found guilty of rape and sexual assault after meeting a woman in a Dublin nightclub nearly six years ago. Verdict after 13 hours
The men claimed they did nothing wrong. There were seven charges total, including rape and sexual assault. The jury decided on six of the seven charges after discussing it for thirteen hours. The jury had eight men and four women.
Anthony Hickey, age 39, is from Dublin. He was found guilty of rape and assault, including oral rape and sexual assault. He said he didn’t rape the woman at his house. He also denied assaulting her in a car.
Fabio Vicente, age 42, lives in Wicklow. Jurors convicted him of two counts of rape. He pleaded not guilty to raping the woman in the car and in the house.
Matin Zolfaghari, age 34, is also from Dublin. He was found guilty of oral rape, but not guilty of sexual assault. He said he did not assault her, which allegedly occurred in the house and car.
The men didn’t react when they heard the jury’s decision. The judge thanked the jury for their hard work. He stated it was a very difficult case.
The woman involved attended the court. The judge said their status changed due to the verdict. The men are now in custody and their sentencing is set for March 10. The court will hear a victim impact statement then.
After court, the men seemed shocked. They hugged their families before being taken into custody.
