Storm Eowyn is set to hit Ireland hard, raising concerns about safety and emergency response
A red wind warning is in place for the whole country starting Friday morning. This means all public transport will be canceled. It’s going to be chaotic, and officials are preparing for the worst.
At a press conference, Keith Leonard from the National Emergency department said this could be one of the worst storms Ireland has ever faced. He urged everyone to get ready. Charge your phones and secure any loose items outside.
He also reminded us to check on older folks and those who might need extra help. It’s all about looking out for each other.
Leonard stressed that while winter storms are common, this one is different. It’s at the extreme end of what we usually see. Public safety is the top priority right now.
Garda Superintendent Liam Geraghty echoed these concerns. He warned that ignoring safety advice could lead to serious injuries. He urged everyone to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel.
An Garda Síochána mentioned that while they’ll be on duty, they might not be able to respond during the storm’s height. So, it’s best to stay safe at home.
Met Éireann’s Eoin Sherlock added that while this storm isn’t officially a hurricane, it could bring tornadoes. The winds are expected to be unusually strong, and we might see fallen trees and power outages.
Jennifer Gilna from the National Transport Authority said all public transport will stop two hours before the red warning kicks in. They’ll check everything before resuming services, but it might take a while to get back to normal.
