Storm Eowyn is causing a partial closure of the M8 motorway for safety, affecting travel between Dublin and Cork during severe weather conditions
Cork: The M8 motorway is facing a partial closure tonight. Storm Eowyn is being taken seriously, and it’s labeled a ‘Danger to Life’ event. So, Cork County Council is closing the Blackwater Viaduct in both directions.
This closure starts at 2 AM and lasts until 10 AM. The viaduct is known for strong crosswinds, especially during storms. They want to keep everyone safe, and it seems like a smart move.
In the past, high-sided vehicles have been blown over on this stretch. The council is closing the motorway between Junction 14 and Junction 15 starting at 9 PM. They might close it earlier if the weather gets worse.
Drivers will need to take a detour. Southbound traffic will go through Fermoy town, exiting at Junction 14 and rejoining at Junction 15. Northbound traffic will do the same but in reverse.
They promise to reopen the route as soon as it’s safe. A nationwide warning is out, advising against travel during this Red Alert period. Stay safe out there!
