Cullompton: The Weary Traveller is closing its doors. Sadie and Steve Nash, the landlords, have decided it’s time to go. They’ve run the pub for three years.

They also manage another pub in Exeter. Sadly, they say it’s no longer financially viable to keep the Weary Traveller open. Rising costs and tough competition are making it hard.

The pub will close this Sunday, January 19. It’s a bummer because it means the end of their popular Wearyfest. This festival always brought in great local bands.

The Weary Traveller is known for its Sunday carvery and fun quizzes. The couple shared their news on Facebook, thanking loyal customers for their support.

They mentioned how much they enjoyed their time there. But with rising utility and food costs, they just can’t keep going. They feel sad but know it’s the right choice.

Regulars are heartbroken. Many have shared their support online. Some locals even reminisced about their visits, especially with their dogs.

Steve mentioned that trade has been declining for a while. He noted that plans for a new train station and M5 junction haven’t helped either.

Their last Wearyfest saw a drop in attendance due to bad weather. They’ve tried different strategies, but nothing has worked.

It’s tough for pubs right now, and they’re losing money. Steve hopes someone might take over the pub in the future. But it’s a risky move in this climate.

For now, they’ll focus on The Farmers Union, which is doing well. The Stonegate Group is looking for someone to take over the Weary Traveller.
