The drowning death of two-year-old Eva-Rose Wainwright in Lifton is under police investigation, with an inquest confirming the cause as drowning and ongoing inquiries.
Lifton: A tragic incident occurred involving a two-year-old girl named Eva-Rose Wainwright. She drowned while visiting farmland in the area. This happened on June 16, 2023.
It took about 18 months for an inquest to open regarding her death. During a recent hearing at Exeter Coroners Court, it was confirmed that Eva-Rose lived in Okehampton and was born on December 29, 2020.
Alison Longhorn, the area coroner, stated that Eva-Rose was found unresponsive in the river. Sadly, she was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of death was confirmed as drowning.
There is an ongoing police investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death. The police had previously described the incident as ‘unexplained’ and are continuing their inquiries.
Police were called to the farmland at 7 PM on the day of the incident. They confirmed that Eva-Rose’s next of kin have been informed, and the Health and Safety Executive has been notified.
After her passing, an obituary was shared online, expressing how much she was loved. It asked for donations to the Devon Air Ambulance Trust in her memory.
The tribute highlighted that she was an adored daughter and sister, and she will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
