The North Devon community rallied together, bringing joy to 200 kids fleeing abuse with generous donations this Christmas season
The North Devon Against Domestic Abuse (NDADA) appeal received not just cash but over 2,000 gifts for women and children in their refuge. Many families arrive with hardly anything, especially during Christmas, which can be tough for kids who’ve had to leave everything behind.
Leading up to Christmas, NDADA launched an online JustGiving appeal that raised £422. But that was just the start! Local churches, businesses, and generous folks donated a wide range of gifts.
This year, they managed to provide gifts to 202 children and 105 adults in need. Some highlights include an anonymous £250 donation for kids to see a pantomime and toys donated by The Voice FM. Primark in Barnstaple also pitched in with gift bags after choosing NDADA as their charity of the year.
The Philip J Milton & Company Plc Charitable Foundation matched staff donations with another £250. Women’s Institute groups made beautiful quilts throughout the year, which are given to women and children during the holidays.
Local churches have been amazing supporters for over 40 years, inviting their congregations to bring gifts for NDADA. Rachel Tossell from NDADA expressed gratitude, saying the community’s response shows clients they are not alone during the holidays.
Hannah Ashford, the CEO, added a heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported the Christmas appeals. She emphasized how the kindness of the community brings comfort and hope to families who often arrive with very little.
As NDADA celebrates its 50th year, they recognize that community support is vital. It’s the generosity that helps them provide safety and essentials, reminding everyone that no one has to face these challenges alone.
They also thanked all the churches and organizations that contributed, highlighting the importance of community in making a difference in the lives of those they support.
