Salcombe: Developers are finally getting the green light for a fancy new home on Devon’s poshest street. This is the third attempt, and it looks like they’ve finally won over the council.

The previous two plans didn’t make the cut. But now, the South Hams Council has voted to demolish the current house at Sheerwater. In its place, they’ll build a four-story pad with four bedrooms and even an indoor pool.

Can you believe the average house price on Devon Road is over a million? It’s a stunning spot overlooking the Salcombe estuary.

The first design was all about modern vibes with white render and glass, but that got shot down last year. The owners tried to appeal, but it didn’t work out. Then they pulled the second plan earlier this year.

Now, the latest design has less glass and more natural stone. Some councillors were still a bit iffy about it, though. Salcombe Town Council even called the new look “slab-like and dull.”

One councillor, Simon Rake, was not happy about tearing down a decent home for this new build. He felt it was a bit of a waste. Another councillor, Mark Long, agreed that while changes were made, the design still wasn’t great.

On the flip side, Cllr Guy Pannell thought it fit in nicely and was less intrusive than the current house. After some back and forth, the committee voted narrowly to let the new development go ahead.
