Exeter: A new entertainment venue might be coming soon. Plans are in the works to revamp a local sports ground. This site could host live music, indoor sports, and plays.

The University of Exeter has applied for a new premises license at Topsham Sports Ground. If approved, this license would allow alcohol sales and various events seven days a week.

Topsham Sports Ground opened in 1999. It has two pitches, a pavilion, and other amenities. The grounds mainly serve the University’s rugby, football, cricket, and lacrosse teams.

In 2022, the Exeter University Rugby Football Club called the site “modest” but a “key venue” for their teams. The licensing application doesn’t specify which part of the grounds will be used for events.

The grounds are located off Exeter Road, near the Topsham Gap, which separates Exeter and Topsham. They are also next to the Topsham Golf Academy, owned by Exeter Golf and Country Club.

This new venue proposal comes after plans to demolish buildings at the Topsham Golf Academy for new homes. That application is still awaiting a decision.
