Dartmoor: The Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust (DPHT) has landed a grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund. This funding will help protect the endangered Heritage Dartmoor Pony breed.

Mike Lithgow, the charity’s chairman, expressed delight over the grant. He sees it as a big vote of confidence in their work. This funding will boost their conservation efforts significantly.

The grant will support a detailed conservation plan. This plan includes activities to increase the Heritage Dartmoor Pony population and promote their conservation. They will also create educational programs and an online resource center.

Debbie Leach from the charity emphasized the importance of these ponies. They are a vital part of Dartmoor National Park. The funding will help protect them, and the DPHT is thankful for the support.

Currently, the Heritage Dartmoor Pony breed is “at risk,” with only about 300 left. The DPHT works closely with breeders and keepers to ensure their survival.

Leach also thanked supporters, volunteers, and staff for their hard work. Their dedication made this grant possible.

The DPHT plans to strengthen partnerships with local communities and conservation organizations. This collaboration will enhance their conservation efforts and highlight the breed’s cultural significance.

Mr. Lithgow noted that this funding comes at a crucial time for the ponies’ survival. They are very grateful for the support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
