West Heanton care home shines in awards, showcasing its strong family values and community focus. A true gem in the local area!
West Heanton: It’s exciting news for the care home! They’ve been shortlisted for the 2024 Lloyds British Business Excellence Awards. Originally, they entered the sustainability category. But the judges were so impressed with their family history that they moved them to the Family Business of the Year category.
Tom Bond runs West Heanton. He’s the third generation in his family to do so. The care home started small, just 12 bedrooms. Now, it has 28 bedrooms and five sheltered housing apartments. They also have a busy Day Centre and provide care for over 80 people at home. Plus, they offer a meals on wheels service!
Tom’s grandparents, Sid and Phylis, founded West Heanton in 1991. They opened it after struggling to find care for Tom’s great grandfather. Fast forward 33 years, and it’s now a well-respected care hub in the community.
A spokesperson shared that the award honors family businesses with a strong vision and values. It’s all about being great employers and positively impacting the community.
Tom and Geoff went to London in September to present to the judges. The awards ceremony was in November, hosted by Anita Rani. They had a fantastic evening at the Grosvenor Hotel, surrounded by impressive businesses.
When the Family Business of the Year category was announced, West Heanton was highly commended. Tom expressed gratitude, saying they couldn’t have achieved this without their amazing team and the support from the West Heanton community.
