Roger Payne, a successful restaurateur, is taking over two Devon pubs, promising exciting renovations and a fresh menu to enhance the local hospitality scene.
Lynmouth: A businessman is expanding his hospitality ventures into Devon. Roger Payne, known for his restaurants in London and the South West, is taking over two pubs.
He’s now in charge of the Blue Ball Inn in Lynmouth and The Crown in Lynton. Roger previously transformed The Griffin pub in Bath and is excited about this new challenge.
Roger plans to give both pubs a “lighter, brighter feel.” The Blue Ball Inn will be refurbished until Easter, while The Crown will get a makeover in early 2026. Both pubs will stay open during the renovations.
He mentioned that the area is stunning, loved by locals and tourists. The Blue Ball Inn is in a great spot for events, and he hopes to expand its offerings with garden pods and staff housing.
Roger aims to create a welcoming atmosphere, similar to The Griffin. He wants to keep the historic charm while adding contemporary features to both pubs.
A new menu is also on the way for the Blue Ball Inn, focusing on quality and value. Roger believes people enjoy going to pubs for special occasions or casual dinners.
Clive Greene from St Austell Brewery expressed excitement about Roger’s involvement. He praised Roger’s experience and commitment to providing excellent hospitality for everyone.
