Dublin Airport Passenger Numbers Decline Due to 32 Million Limit

Passenger numbers at Dublin Airport fell by 1% in January. The 32 million passenger cap prevented more than 150,000 from flying. Storm Eowyn also caused many flights to be cancelled.

Dublin Airport had fewer passengers. It happened because of the 32 million limit.

January saw 2,117,622 passengers. This number is 1% less than January 2024. Daa said 150,000 to 200,000 more people could have flown, but the passenger cap stopped them.

Storm Eowyn caused many flight cancellations. Over 230 flights got cancelled in and out of Dublin. Gale-force winds grounded planes, and the storm caused destruction across Ireland.

Kenny Jacobs is Dublin Airport’s CEO. He said the airport worked well despite the storm, but the passenger cap is still a problem. Passenger numbers dropped two months in a row. Many people want to fly, and airlines wish to fly from Dublin.

Ireland might be the only top European country that shows less air travel capacity. This prediction compares Q1 2025 to Q1 2024.

Daa will resubmit an application for 36 million passengers a year. Daa will send it to Fingal County Council this week; it is a “no build” plan.
