A driver was arrested on the M50 after a crash revealed drug use and no insurance. Thankfully, no injuries occurred during the incident.
Dublin: A driver was arrested after a crash on the M50. The accident involved three cars and happened earlier this week. Emergency crews quickly arrived at the scene.
Two lanes were closed for a while, causing traffic jams. Luckily, no one was hurt. Gardaí tested one driver for drugs, and the results were positive for cocaine, opiates, and benzos.
On top of that, the driver didn’t have insurance. After the roadside test, they were arrested for further testing at the station. The blood sample will be analyzed to determine the next steps.
Gardaí shared photos of the crash aftermath on Facebook. The images showed an Audi with airbags deployed and emergency vehicles around it. They confirmed the driver was uninsured and tested positive for drugs.
Motorists caught drug driving face serious penalties. A minimum one-year driving ban is possible if found over the drug limit. If impaired, the ban could be four years or more.
Fines can reach up to €5,000, and there’s a chance of a six-month prison sentence. Driving without insurance also leads to hefty fines and possible jail time.
In Ireland, driving without insurance means a mandatory court appearance. Offenders can get up to five penalty points and face a driving ban of four years or more.
