Dog owners should be careful. Two dogs died after going to South West beaches. Some other dogs got sick after visiting Cornwall beaches.

People saw dogs getting sick near Newquay. This happened after walks on Fistral and Little Fistral beaches. These beaches allow dogs all year. The cause of the sickness is unknown right now.

Newquay Town Council knows about it, and they suggest calling Cornwall Council with worries. The dog owners didn’t see their pets eat anything strange.

Poisoning might be the cause. Dogs could eat palm oil or hemlock root. Both were seen on the north coast this winter. Palm oil harms dogs if they eat a lot.

Hemlock root is very toxic to dogs. Vets need to see those dogs fast. Newquay Town Council knows dogs got sick, which happened near Fistral and Little Fistral.

Cornwall Council knows this too. They say avoid that area with dogs for now. Call Cornwall Council if you have questions.

Cornwall Council said hemlock roots washed up near Fistral and Little Fistral. Hemlock roots can poison animals.

Hemlock grows in Cornwall. Winter weather can wash it downstream, and then it ends up on beaches. They are posting warning signs, saying to keep dogs on a leash. It urges owners to watch their dogs.
