The Ilfracombe Academy celebrates being the most improved school in England for disadvantaged students, showcasing impressive GCSE results and progress scores.
Ilfracombe: The Ilfracombe Academy is celebrating big news. It’s been named the most improved school in England for disadvantaged students. Plus, it’s the second most improved overall!
The Department for Education released the latest GCSE results. The Ilfracombe Academy scored above average in Progress 8. This means students are doing better than similar students nationwide.
Progress 8 measures how well students perform across all subjects. It encourages schools to help every student, not just those at the top or bottom.
This year, the school ranks third in Devon for overall performance. Students were thrilled with their GCSE results, achieving their best scores ever. A fantastic 59.2% of students got a grade 5 or higher in English and math.
The school also ranks 12th in Devon for Attainment 8, which measures progress in students’ best eight subjects.
Headteacher Steve Rogers expressed pride in the students and staff. He highlighted the hard work that led to these achievements, especially for SEND students who outperformed their peers nationally.
Rogers emphasized the school’s commitment to a child-centered education that reflects Christian values. They aim for high academic standards and support all students in their learning journey.
