A recent report highlights Devon’s alarming dangerous driving rates, especially in Plymouth and Torbay, raising concerns for local motorists.
In the last year, police reported 134 dangerous driving cases in Devon and Cornwall. Sadly, some of these led to deaths or serious injuries. But the numbers have actually dropped from previous years.
When you look at the population, Torbay has the highest rate of dangerous driving. They recorded 65 incidents over three years, with six causing serious harm. That’s one dangerous driver for every 1,964 people there.
Plymouth follows closely behind, with a rate of 44 incidents per 100,000 drivers. It’s clear that dangerous driving is a big issue in these areas.
Dangerous driving includes things like speeding, aggressive driving, and ignoring traffic signals. It can even mean driving under the influence or when you’re too tired to be safe.
The consequences can be severe, including fines, losing your license, or even jail time. In the worst cases, causing death by dangerous driving can lead to a 14-year prison sentence.
Interestingly, Bradford is the real dangerous driving capital of England and Wales, with a staggering rate of 247 offences per 100,000 people. It’s a serious issue that needs attention across the board.
