A proposal to expand Lufflands Caravan Park in Sutcombe faces backlash over traffic safety concerns and local objections, prompting further scrutiny from authorities.
The park’s owner, Mr. Alan Bryant, wants to use land that was previously for caravan storage. He believes this expansion is a natural step for the park. He argues that it won’t harm the landscape or the road.
However, some residents disagree. Oliver Burgess, a neighbor, has voiced strong concerns. He worries about the narrow road and the danger it poses, especially with caravans. He mentioned that the road has seen accidents before and fears more caravans will make it worse.
Devon County Council’s Highways Authority also has concerns. They want more information about how the expansion will affect traffic. They usually expect details about road access and visibility before approving such plans.
Without this information, the authority might oppose the expansion. They indicated that they would likely recommend refusal if the necessary details aren’t provided.
The parish council hasn’t formally objected but is curious about the road entrance for the site. They want to know if the proposed entrance is suitable for traffic.
On a different note, Torridge District Council’s Environmental Protection Team has no objections. They noted that the park’s license would need to change if the expansion goes ahead.
In defense of the expansion, the planning statement claims it meets local policies and addresses the demand for more touring pitches. It also states that the extra traffic won’t be significant since caravan owners usually keep their vehicles on-site for the season.
