Exeter: Some wild driving has been caught on camera in Devon and Cornwall. A new video shows drivers doing everything from mounting pavements to driving the wrong way on roundabouts. It’s a real eye-opener!

Devon and Cornwall Police started Operation Snap in 2019. This lets people report dangerous driving by sending in video evidence online. In just five years, they’ve received over 20,600 clips from concerned citizens.

In 2024 alone, more than 6,000 videos were submitted. The police have now shared some of the craziest clips, highlighting the worst driving behaviors in the area.

One clip shows a Citroen trying to overtake a lorry on the A30 by driving off-road. The driver got four penalty points and a fine of £279. Ouch!

Another video from a cyclist’s camera caught a van ignoring a cyclist at a junction in Exeter. The cyclist had to swerve onto the pavement, and the van driver ended up with a six-month ban and a £391 fine.

There’s also footage of an Audi going the wrong way on the A38 in Buckfastleigh. That driver racked up six penalty points and a £410 fine. Yikes!

The police are grateful to those who submit videos. It helps keep roads safer for everyone. Adrian Leisk from the police said they can’t be everywhere, so public help is crucial.

He noted that over 20,000 submissions show how much the community cares about road safety. Everyone has seen bad driving, and it can put lives at risk.

By sharing video evidence, the police can take action against reckless drivers. They hope this will improve driving standards and reduce serious accidents.

Alison Hernandez, the Police & Crime Commissioner, thanked everyone who submitted footage. She emphasized that this effort is about saving lives. In 2023, there were 48 fatalities and 702 serious injuries on the roads in Devon and Cornwall.

They aim to cut fatal and serious collisions by 50% by 2030, and Operation Snap is a big part of that mission. If you want to learn more or submit footage, check out their website!
