Devon: A councillor named Leonard Ford has been jailed for his abusive behavior. He targeted senior officials at Torridge District Council.

Ford, 64, sent many emails filled with accusations of corruption. He harassed the council’s chief executive and the head of legal and governance.

In December, a trial in Exeter found him guilty of two offenses. He received an 18-week jail sentence for his actions.

Ford’s emails included harsh language, calling officials “dishonest” and using offensive terms. He even referenced Hitler and made bizarre claims during council meetings.

Despite warnings from the council, Ford continued his behavior. One official felt so threatened that she installed security cameras at her home.

The issues began in 2021 after complaints about Ford’s conduct. He was unhappy with the findings against him, which led to his aggressive emails.

After the trial, the judge noted that Ford’s messages were abusive and unhinged. Ford admitted to some wrongdoing but blamed his mental health.

He remains a councillor but is now banned from the council offices for four years. The council is reviewing his position following the conviction.
