Devon has seen its fair share of fraudsters, with shocking cases involving millions. Here’s a look at some of the worst offenders caught recently.
Devon: A conman named Julian Mabbutt was recently jailed. He pulled off a wild scam with fake passports and documents. This guy walked into banks, lied about who he was, and stole a ton of cash—almost £35,000!
Believe it or not, this isn’t his first rodeo. He was already in trouble for similar scams back in 2019. It’s wild how many people end up in court for fraud in Devon. But these fraudsters? They’re in a league of their own.
Instead of using force, they rely on trickery and lies. Over the past year, many have been caught in Devon, with fraud cases totaling over £1 million. It’s pretty shocking!
Take Roger Bryant, for example. He and his two sons scammed the National Trust out of a whopping £1 million. Roger, a former employee, faked invoices for work that was never done. His sons got in on the action too, and they all faced serious consequences.
Then there’s Loui Guinan, who betrayed his own grandmother. He drained her bank account of £6,500 and tried to take even more. She was confused and didn’t want to get him in trouble. But when she checked her account, the money was gone!
And let’s not forget about Darren Moysey, a dodgy accountant. He defrauded a company out of £21,000 while pretending to handle their taxes. He got a suspended sentence but has to pay back what he stole.
Keith Kent, a pub landlord, also got caught. He defrauded the state of nearly £32,000 by not reporting his savings. The judge was not impressed and gave him a suspended sentence too.
Lastly, Claire Precious, an administrator at a pre-school, stole £65,000 to buy herself fancy stuff. She used school funds for personal shopping, even buying a new sofa! It’s just unbelievable how low some people will go.
These stories show just how cunning and deceitful some folks can be. It’s a real shame to see trust broken like this in our communities.
