Willand: A new illuminated advertising display might be coming to Willand Service Station. Wildstone Estates Limited has asked the Mid Devon District Council for permission to set up a small-format digital ad display.

This display will be located on the B3181 (Silver Street) and will mainly target petrol station users. It will use LCD technology to show rotating ads, changing every ten seconds.

The screen will measure 1.23m wide by 2.4m high. During the day, it will be bright, but at night, it will dim to comply with lighting guidelines. The ads will include local promotions and national campaigns.

Wildstone Estates says this project is part of a larger effort with the Motor Fuel Group to modernize advertising at their UK sites. They aim to meet customer needs and improve the service station’s appearance.

The company has also addressed concerns about the display’s impact on nearby homes. They claim the sign will be placed in a commercial zone, about 45 meters from the nearest houses.

They assure that the display will not directly overlook residential properties. The closest windows are 65 meters away, so they won’t be affected by the screen’s brightness.

Additionally, the site is not in a conservation area, and there are no listed buildings nearby. The application has received no objections from key groups, including Willand Parish Council.

National Highways also had no comments, as the site is far from the M5 motorway. The proposal follows local and national planning policies, which focus on public safety and amenity.

Mid Devon District Council will review the application to ensure it meets all regulations. If approved, the digital screen will be allowed for five years before needing further consent.
