A fire at the former EX4 nightclub in Exeter is believed to be arson. Fire crews responded quickly, extinguishing the flames that spread from the doorway.
Exeter: A fire broke out at a former nightclub early this morning. The incident happened at the old EX4 building on Fore Street.
Firefighters believe the blaze was started deliberately. They were called around 4:30 AM to find the doorway on fire.
Crews from Danes Castle and Middlemoor fire stations quickly arrived. They used a hose reel jet to put out the flames and cleared smoke with a ventilation fan.
The EX4 nightclub had been closed since January 2024. It went up for sale after facing issues last year.
In November, there were talks of new owners taking over. A new license application was submitted to allow the venue to operate daily from 9 AM to 3 AM.
Previously, the nightclub faced damage from heavy rain in September 2023. Repairs left only one floor open for guests.
Exotic dancing returned briefly, but the venue closed completely on January 4 last year. The future of the site remains uncertain.
