The A30 in Devon is closed again due to emergency resurfacing after a bus fire. Drivers face detours as crews work to reopen the road for Monday morning.
Devon: A section of the A30 is closed again. This is the second night in a row. Emergency work is needed to resurface the road after a bus fire on Saturday.
The bus fire happened on the eastbound side of the A30. It was between Launceston and Sourton Down. The fire caused long delays and detours for drivers heading east from Cornwall.
After the fire, the road reopened but was limited to one lane on Sunday. The heat from the fire damaged the road surface badly. Now, crews are resurfacing the road to reopen both lanes.
Tonight, the A30 is closed eastbound again. National Highways contractors are on site working hard to finish the repairs before Monday morning’s rush hour.
Drivers are being diverted again. If you’re heading from Launceston into Devon, take the Liftondown exit. Then, turn right onto the A388 and follow it through several towns to get back to the A30.
A spokesperson from National Highways said the diversion route is not signposted. They advise drivers to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys.
